What’s Your Belief – Chicken or Eagle?

by Connie McKnight

This is a very powerful story. It shows how powerful our beliefs are. Read it and think of how it applies to someone  you know; possibly a colleague. We all have the ability to change this. A leader builds people up to and helps them become the best they can be. We can all be eagles if given the encouragement to believe in ourselves.

A man found an eagle’s egg and put it in the nest of a backyard hen. The eaglet hatched with the brood of chicks and grew up with them.

All his life the eagle did what the backyard chickens did, thinking he was a backyard chicken. He scratched the earth for worms and insects. He clucked and cackled. And he would thrash his wings and fly a few feet into the air.

Years passed and the eagle grew very old. One day he saw a magnificent bird far above him in the cloudless sky. It glided in graceful majesty among the powerful wind currents, with scarcely a beat of its strong golden wings.

The old eagle looked up in awe, “Who’s that?” he asked.

“That’s the eagle, the king of the birds,” said his neighbor. “He belongs to the sky. We belong to the earth–we’re chickens.”

So the eagle lived and died a chicken, for that’s what he thought he was.

Are you living life as a chicken or an eagle? If it’s a chicken, you can change your belief. What kind of people do you surround yourself with? What kind of books do you read? What do you listen to? What we take in helps define who we are. We were born to be great. I hope this message resonates with you to make a difference in someone else’s life.

Please Share this and help someone who may be living their life as a chicken instead of the Eagle they were born to be.

Have you ever held a belief so strong that it affected you, just like the eagle?

Hi Connie! This is an inspiring story but a little less of the details. I think I heard a similar story like this but the eagle was able to fly high. It’s really difficult if you are already influenced by the people around you. You will need someone to jump start that dream or ambition.

Hi James,

The trouble is, if you don’t think you can do it, you’ll find a way to sabotage the project. If we have the belief we can accomplish everything we want in life, nothing will stop us from reaching our goals.

I found it interesting because reading your post reminded me of the struggling masses all trying to make some sense of it all. I believe all creatures have value, be they eagles, chickens or people! My blog is really just about people and animals having fun ….. it’s just a fledgling at present …..
